Disney’s Riviera Resort: An Honest Review of the Deluxe Disney Resort Experience for Adults
Disney doesn't have to feel rushed or exhausting, nor should it. There are so many ways to experience Disney, but after reflecting on my most recent trip just a few months ago, I can safely say that this way was my favorite yet.
This year I approached my trip to Disney with the sole intention of creating my own elevated getaway both inside and outside of the park, and it did not disappoint. And I truly believe that picking this Disney resort had much to do with it.
I've taken the hotel route, the Airbnb route, and now officially the deluxe Disney World resort route, and while there are ways that work best for everyone, I'm here to share why, if you enjoy just as many quiet moments as thrilling attractions, and time spent soaking up the sun instead of feeling like you're powering through it, then staying at one of Disney's deluxe resorts might be worth it. And more particularly, Disney's Riviera Resort.
Before staying at Disney's Riviera Resort, I had grown accustomed to squeezing every ounce of magic into packed park days, and taking advantage of every hour. Instead, I found myself slowing down, and the best way I could describe it is lingering. Lingering over morning coffee, riding the Skyliner at sunset, and realizing that luxury at Disney isn't about extravagance. It's about having the space to actually enjoy the experience whether you're at the park or not.
If you're wondering whether booking a deluxe Disney resort is worth it, here's why Disney's Riviera Resort completely changed the way I experience Disney. And why I'd do it again and again. And if you're looking to plan your most enchanting Disney World trip yet as an adult, this guide will help you do just that.
Deluxe Disney Resort: Disney's Riviera Resort
What Makes a Deluxe Disney Resort Different?
If you aren't too familiar with what a "deluxe Disney resort" is, it's a collection of 8 Disney resorts and 12 Deluxe Villa Resorts (more condo/apartment style options with separate bedrooms!).
Each resort is in extremely close proximity to one of the Disney parks, offering convenience from access to dining options, extra evening park hours, complimentary transportation, and on-site amenities. Each deluxe resort has its own unique theme, and what I love most about them is that it's not the on-the-nose themes you might be thinking, but more like these immersive atmospheres that make you feel like you're stepping into their world.
There are already about a dozen things I want to mention piggybacking off of that alone, but I won't get ahead of myself. Instead, I'll just share a quick list of all of the deluxe Disney resorts that Disney has to offer:

Why I Chose Disney's Riviera Resort
Early on, my trips to Disney were so new and novel that my days looked jam-packed with what to do and where to go next, which I don't regret one bit! However, as I've grown older, I started to realize that the itineraries I loved most were the ones that were balanced with adventure and exploration of a new city and what it has to offer, and with enough room to embrace the quiet moments. And that is when I considered that staying at one of Disney's deluxe resorts would help me achieve just that.
I Wanted Disney to Feel Like a Vacation
If you've been here a while, you also know that where I choose to call my home away from home for whatever duration of my trip makes all the difference in the world to me. So when my sister and I decided it would be a fun trip to celebrate her birthday, I decided why not treat this vacation the way I would plan any other.
I love the magic of Disney, and all of the experiences you can just stumble into, but I also wanted slower mornings, less chaos, and moments that made me want to stay at the resort more than I wanted to go anywhere else.
The European Inspiration Won Me Over
From architecture, to classic films, and just the standard of enjoying life at an unhurried pace that is engrained in their lifestyle โ I love everything about European culture. So Disney's Riviera Resort just called to me. Being so deeply rooted in true French & Italian Riviera inspiration, not in the assumed ways either, but in true attention to the details from ornate frames encompassing the art in the hallway, the romantic old-world room interiors, and even the sounds that constantly drift through the halls, the common spaces that encourage you to sit and chat for a little while longer.
6 Reasons Disney's Riviera Resort Is Worth It
1. The Skyliner Changes Everything
When staying at the Riviera Resort, EPCOT is the nearest park, being just a short Skyliner ride away. This was perfect because if you're arriving anytime before your scheduled check-in, it becomes the most no-fuss process to stow your bag and get started on the fun a bit earlier.
You can also take the same Skyliner to Hollywood Studios, though don't make the same mistake that I did and hop on the Skyliner going in the wrong direction.
Whether you're hopping straight off a plane or spending your first day at the parks, one of the nicest parts of staying at the resort is that, in addition to the Skyliner, there are also complimentary shuttles that come around frequently โ though I'd say the Skyliner adds just a bit of excitement simply from traveling around in a way you can't normally do every day.
And if the Florida heat is on your mind, these are the best fans for Disney World to help you stay cool between park stops.
2. It Feels Peaceful Even During Busy Seasons
I think it's safe to say that even a slow time at Disney still sees lively crowds, but one of the things this resort did beautifully is create an atmosphere that's always tranquil โ whether you're sitting in the lobby amongst chatter and excited laughter, or by the pool watching those same Skyliners make their trips back and forth.
The atmosphere is its own little world where, despite the excitement that Disney World offers, the pace is slower, the ambiance calmer.
3. The Dining Is Exceptional
There are so many amazing options, you probably won't even get to try them all in one stay! Primo Piatto's breakfast was by far my favorite eats during my trip there. If not for the waffles, then surely for the breakfast pizza. It's simple but so well done!
Topolino's Terrace is the property's more fine-dining option, with gorgeous rooftop access โ perfect for evenings when you want to get dressed up and have a nice dinner without leaving the property.
Bar Riva is a nice little fun spot tucked away with a solid menu and even better Aperol spritz, which really elevated my quiet pool day.
Not so much a dining option, but they also have a cafรฉ with some pretty amazing coffee and French-inspired pastries.
Whether it was a coffee morning or late-night dinner, having so many nice options right at your fingertips is truly a gem when you're coming in from a park day.
4. Every Detail Feels Intentional
From the vintage artwork decorating the walls to the stone walkway leading up to the entrance, every corner of the resort is filled with hidden Disney touches. Walking around after the sun sets, even when it's quiet, is breathtaking โ from the elegant scents that feel uniquely theirs to the waterfalls that just capture your attention.
5. It's Perfect for AdultsโBut Families Love It Too
Another important distinction for me was knowing how family-oriented Disney World is. I wanted somewhere that felt elevated and tranquil enough for me as an adult.
Disney's Riviera Resort was the perfect destination โ while you can still hear the laughter of children coming in from an exciting day at the park, or playing in the courtyard, there's still a sense of calm order, from the designated adults-only pool to the quietness in the evening, which I was most pleasantly surprised by.
Even better, the next time I do visit with my family in tow, I'm confident my trip will be just as it was the first time, while the littles will also have plenty to do around the resort. I believe its one of the best deluxe Disney resort for adults or even couples, but it also manages to be a resort where the whole family can have their own experiences to enjoy, from pool parties, to hosted games in the courtyard, to movie nights under the stars with their own little concession stand.
It's the best of both worlds โ whether you're with your family and want a resort where you can still find your own moments of rest and quiet, or you're on an elevated solo trip where you still want to be surrounded by infectious joy.
6. It Encourages a Different Kind of Disney Trip
Out of all the ways I love the Riviera Resort, the one I love most is how I felt every day there. I can't pinpoint if it's the romantic nature of the French-infused atmosphere, or the leisure of an Italian summer, or if it could possibly be a combination of both. But the outcome was everything I look for in a vacation.
Slow mornings spent by the water with devotionals and a nice simple breakfast, the ease in the day. The ease allowing me more moments to turn off my logistical brain and just feel, even if it's from something as simple as hopping on the Skyliner or a shuttle and letting the heavy lifting be done by someone else. Wandering down to the lobby for a late snack, or nestling into a comfy corner of the library with a good book and music in the air.
It makes it so easy to be intentional and present, enjoying the moments that carry so much...

Simply put, if you are looking to curate a relaxing and elevated experience both in and outside of the park, then I think this is a part of the experience worth looking into. If you're maximizing your budget this trip, or stopping in for the afternoon or day, save this destination for the visit that aligns with the kind of trip you'd like to have.
