As Thanksgiving nears, our grocery list gets longer, and we’re making travel plans, it’s important to slow down and embrace the reason why we gather. Thanksgiving is about celebrating one another, and embracing the attitude of gratitude. What it also means is honoring the very things that we’re grateful for like our catching a rainbow, a steady beating heart, and loving friends and family. And in that same spirit, it’s also about honoring yourself. Your gentle heart, your creativity, and the joy of your own company sinking into comforting rituals or creating something new.
These DIY thanksgiving earrings are the perfect little craft for a cozy day in, and to also have a unique pair of thanksgiving earrings to add to your collection.
In this post you’ll find a step-by-step guide to creating pumpkin pie earrings that are guaranteed to be a showstopper for Thanksgiving dinners to come.

DIY Pie Earring Instructions:
- Preheat the oven
- Set your oven to the temperature recommended on your clay package (every brand is a little different).
- Make the “filling”
- Roll out your orange clay into a circle about 1 ½ inches wide and ¼ inch thick, this will be your sweet potato pie filling.
- Create the crust base
- Roll out your crust-colored clay into the same size circle as your orange filling. This will sit right beneath your “pie.”
- Add the outer crust edge
- Using the same crust clay, roll a thin strip and gently wrap it around the outside edge of your pie. Think of it like adding that golden, flaky rim of a real pie.
- Smooth it out
- Use your tools (or even just your fingers) to blend and smooth any seams or cracks between the bottom and side crust until it looks seamless.
- Shape the crust design
- Gently press in little markings along the edge to give it that classic pie crust look.
- Slice your pie
- Using a clay cutter, slice your pie into 8 even pieces (cut in halves, then in halves again until you have slices).
- Optional whipped cream
- Roll out tiny “dollops” of white clay and place one on top of each slice for a sweet finishing touch.
- Add the earring posts
- Take a finding from your earring kit and carefully slide one into each slice of pie, from the back through to the tip of the slice.
- Bake your clay
- Place your slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for the amount of time listed on your clay packaging.
- Cool completely
- Let your earrings cool for about 30–45 minutes before handling. They’ll harden as they set.
- Finish the earrings
- Once cooled, create a loop at the top of each stem, attach a small jump ring, and then connect it to your earring hook.
Voila! You’re left with a stunning pair of cute Thanksgiving earrings that will definitely be a conversations starter. The best part is you’ll have a few extra pair to gift to a friend. It’s the gift that keeps on giving, and how fitting for this time of ear.
Every woman deserves a slice of guilt free pie at Thanksgiving, and with these earrings, yours just happen to travel with you wherever you go.
