Becoming the woman of your dreams does not mean leaving everything about your old self behind. It’s recognizing a necessary season for transformation and finetuning all of the skills, wisdom, and values into a more refined version of yourself. There’s a reason they say “nothing changes, if nothing changes”. Each season of our lives serves a special purpose of change and new beginnings. From lessons to blessings, and pruning and shedding. The beauty in this is knowing that you have the freedom to evolve with the seasons. Sometimes the seasons aren’t so much the things that happen to us, but the choices we make.
Have you ever felt stagnant? Or maybe as if the life you’re carving of yourself requires a different version of you? If so, that is a good thing! This is actually a very telling sign that you’re evolving. In this post we’ll walk through how to reinvent yourself while still being true and aligned with the core of who you are.
Fresh starts aren’t solely reserved for new year’s resolutions. These beginnings can happen on your own time unfolding with intention. If you’ve been yearning for a season of refresh, this post is all about how to reinvent yourself, and why the perfect time is now.
Why Is Reinvention Sometimes Necessary?
It’s so easy to fall into the happenings of life. This is where we fall into mundane routines where the mornings blend into afternoon and the days blend into one another. Other times it can be just the opposite, where there are so many life trnsitions happening around you that you simply can’t keep up. No matter how busy, hectic, or predictable life can get, it’s important to remember that you have the power to take back control at any moment.
Another reason you may find a season of necessary reset is if you have a notest section full of goals, but no idea where to start on carrying out these goals. If you’re wondering why it was so easy to crush your goals before, and all of a sudden you’re met with the frustration of yet another list of goals left unfinished – this may be a sign that these new goals are requiring a different version of you with diffent habits, priorities, and a different mindset. And that’s a beautiful realization, because the best time to start is now.
These acts of reinvention don’t have to be dramatic monumnetal shifts – the key to any effective reinvention is intention. Intention takes you from “going through the motions” to every action and habit being effortlessly purposeful supporting the life you’ve curated for yourself.
Taking Inventory of Your Life
Before you get started with putting your plan into action to curate a more intentional life, knowing exactly what areas you’re craving this refresh most. These are broad areas that make up our everyday, whether its your career or how you show up in relationships. Consider the following categories and take a moment to think of which areas you want to see your change in:
- Personal Growth
- Education
- Finances
- Health
- Relationships
- Careers
No area is too big or too small for redesigning to fit your dream life. Take as much time as you need to get clear about the areas that matter most to you.
A Grounded Step-by-Step Approach
- Study the you right now
- Over the next one to two days, observe your habits, mindset, and what consumes your time
- Write down a list of the things that you do that align with who you want to be, and the things that aren’t serving you
- Get clear
- Write down a perfect day for the woman you wish to become – what does she do, where does she live, what things does she spend her time and money on, what does she smell like, what do her relationships look like?
- You can even pull from influential people in your life or that you admire to help paint this picture.
- Fine tune these aspirations into SMART goals
- Once you’ve put to paper the woman that you invision yourself being, turn each of these skillsets into SMART goals. “SMART” goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound). Setting goals this way turns your goals from wishes to actionable items.
- (example: I would like to be more present and dependable in my relationships. Over the next year I will set aside and hour every Sunday to call and talk to a friend or a loved one. Once a quarter I will invite a different friend to catch up.
- Once you’ve put to paper the woman that you invision yourself being, turn each of these skillsets into SMART goals. “SMART” goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound). Setting goals this way turns your goals from wishes to actionable items.
- Now look at each goal and find atleast 1-3 habits out of that
- Out of all of your goals choose only 1-2 to start implementing. It may be tempting to start them all, but “A” is for achievable. We want this journey to be realistic and achievable so you can seemlesly transform into the woman your heart desires to be.
- Find out where these goals fit in your schedule, and mark them in your calendar.
- Whether it’s a 30 minute walk each morning, or a monthly solo date. Prioritize yourself by making it just as nonnegotiable in your calendar as a biannual dentist appointment. This refresh is inevitable.
Gentle Action
No matter how many goals, and new identity habits you’ve come up with by this point, it’s important to start with one at a time. Once we are fueled by inspiration and this dopamine from writing down new and exciting goals, it’s easy to want to do everything now. This journey isnt a sprint, but a marathon. It takes small subtle shifts that compact over time, instead of an avalanche of newness that can comsume you or be impractical.
Being able to count on yourself, and follow through with the things you set out to do is an invaluable promise. So it is far better to start with impliminted 2-3 habits, or focusing on one are of refreshing your life at a time, and constantly seeing the evidence of you showing up for yourself. Not only is this realistic, but it establishes more confidence each and every day that you commit to your promises.
The Mindset Shifts That Help You Grow
Like many things in life your perspective and mindset mold much of your actions, and thought process. In becoming intentional about this journey, and creating systems to makes this shift inevitable. If you’ve been frustrated with feeling stagnate or stuck, that is your body’s way of telling you that something must change. If you’ve longed for more peace, a gentler life, and have aspirations that ignite you then you came across this at the perfect time, and I also have knews for you. It’s not impossible, but it starts with you.
Walk into this rebrand knowing that there might be discomfort. In fact studies have shown us that our brain craves comfort. So creating routines and habits that changes your new normal and pushes you out of your comfort zone are bound to have it’s challenges. But anything worth having does not come easy. That whisper that there’s more for you shouldnt be ignored because of fear or comfort. By getting really intentional and strategic about creating the life of your dreams you’re already one step closer.
That’s why starting small is one of the greatest keys to staying true to your goals. That confidence that you will build each and every day by showing up for yourself, is the glue that will begin to mold you as pieces of your new identity takes shape.
Game-Changing Resources:
- Atomic Habits by James Clear – this book is an annual reread. It focuses on big change through little habits, and offers amazing tips and knowledge that you can apply whenever and wherever.
- Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey – this book truly works from the inside out. Exploring our mindset, our internal paradigms and the things that make us who we are. More excitingly it shares great knowledge on starting again and changing how we show up in the world.
- A planner – studies have shown that simply writing things down makes us more likely to remember them and complete them. Lately I’ve loved writing things in my planner more than my phone because I don’t have to worry about getting sidetracked with other apps on my phone.
- Journaling – whether it’s a 1-minute journaling session, or a 15 minute journaling session, journaling serves as a sort of accountability tracker, but also helps you to learn more about yourself along the way.
Here are a few journal prompts for future journaling sessions:
- What does reinvention mean to me?
- What values am I unwilling to sacrifice in the name of growth?
- What am I afraid I’ll lose if I change? Is that fear rooted in truth or comfort?
- How can I practice reinvention as refinement rather than reinvention as erasure?
- What small, intentional shifts would help me become more myself, not someone else?
- Which habits or identities am I ready to release? Not because they’re “bad,” but because they no longer fit?
- When do I feel most like myself?
- What growth have I overlooked because it didn’t happen loudly or quickly?
- What boundaries does my next version require?
- What would it look like to let my reinvention unfold slowly, gracefully, and on my own timeline?
Yes, a new year tends to bring new beginnings, and could even serve as the perfect opporrtunity to reset and refresh. However, all of our seasons and chapters of our lives are different. If you’ve felt this restlessness, dont wait until a new year – do it now. This journey is uniquely yours. Start today. Start now.
Reinventing yourself does not mean leaving your old self behind, but rather a refinement. A caterpillar doesn’t lose itself to become something new. Instead it gives itself time to grow its wings blossoming into a new creature. Even if change feels daunting or uncomfortable at first – you are worth the effort.
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful” (Psalms 139:14)
